What was your first Villa game?
The first one I remember was a home game against Hull City in the early /mid 70’s. I know that we won, but cannot recall how many. What I do remember vividly, was walking up the back of the Witton end on the concrete steps, getting to the top of the open terrace and looking down at the magnificent sight before me that was Villa Park. That was it for me; Villa was going to be my team.
What was your first Villa kit?
I did get the 1980/81 top for my birthday in that year, as that was when I had my first season ticket (lucky eh!). I have never been one for buying kits, especially since sponsors starting appearing on them (Acorns being the exception to the rule), though I do buy the “retro” tops.
Where do you sit at Villa Park?
Holte end lower (L6). I settled for the left side of the Holte when I first started going regular, and when seating was put in, I went for a seat roughly where I used to stand.
Who is your all-time Villa hero?
What a question! It is so hard to pick just one player from all my heroes over the time watching the Villa. From Chico Hamilton, Andy Lochead, Brian Little, Andy Gray, the 81/82 team (everyone of them a hero), David Platt, “The Lord” Paul McGrath, Dwight Yorke, the list just goes on .... If I was pushed though, it would probably be between Dennis Mortimer and Des Bremner and the toss of a coin would have to separate them.
What trophy would you most like to see Villa win?
It has got to be the “Holy Grail” of the FA Cup. I have seen the club win all the other significant honours except this one. It is the only thing I want to see before I “pop my clogs”. European cups and league titles are a thing of the past now for our club I’m afraid (unless we get bought out by a Sheik or Oil baron!), success nowadays seems to be measured in “finishing fourth”, it’s sad for the younger generation of fans.
What is your favourite away ground?
Again, this is a tough one. I have so many favourites for so many different reasons. But if I had to be pinned down to one of the current stadia, then it would probably be Fulham. Great location still got that “old world” charm and always a good atmosphere.
What is your favourite shirt number?
7. Though in this era of squad numbers, I would probably pick my birth date, 27.
What was your proudest Villa day?
Can anyone argue that the night in Rotterdam was not the best day ever to be a Villa fan? To be crowned European champions when it was a proper competition for the league champions of Europe to pit their wits against each other just has to be up there. Mind you, I had a great day at Highbury when we won the league.
What would your ideal away kit colour combination be?
White shirt (with a claret & blue trim on the collar and sleeves), blue shorts & socks
If you won the Euro lottery........?
It would have to be a lifetimes executive box (or two), for the lads who put up with me at all the games and for the members of the club ..... Obviously any money left over after seeing the family right, just might cover the bar bill for a couple of seasons!
